FSX, questions, communities
I was watching the (simFlight) forums on the first morning after SP1 was released….. almost totally quiet… I counted some ten comments in the early hours….. then I looked at Avsim and WOW !! Hundreds of people blabbering about it, some real vinegar in it as well in many posts….. phew, glad I am not the forum admin there anymore !!
A day went by and more people started asking questions on the simFlight forum. Quite a few seem to have problems with getting SP1 to ‘increase performance’ … well, we hardly hear the folks with NO PROBLEMS of course.
Two things soon became apparent: 1) simFlight readers seem to be more modest ‘do-ers’, whereas Avsim/Flightsim.com visitors are people who like to be heard. I guess the different cultures of the boards attract like minded people.
2) MANY people simply do NOT read! It was advertised explicitly and extensively on Phil Taylor’s Blog, on the various forums, even in news messages, that the BEST way to install SP1 would be on a NEW INSTALL of FSX and followed by a DEFRAG. That was proven on most if not all Beta Tester’s installations too.
Well.. guess what !?
Yup.
Since then more problems have popped up… like folks NOT installing the latest FSUIPC version, specially made for SP1 (!!), people not finding their fsx.cfg (still folks with hidden folders on their machines), people wondering about earlier ‘patches’ (they ARE included now!), etc.
Like with our and other’s FS add-ons it soon becomes clear again that 99.9% of all cases are due to what people do on or with their PC’s…. very often without knowing it. Really seldom is a problem caused by a thoroughly tested system (of course it happens some times).
To me this really looks like an extra incentive to push on with my FSSupport plans and get that service in place before the Fall…… watch this space
